• Being an active bystander means being aware of when someone's behaviour is inappropriate or threatening and choosing to challenge it. If you do not feel comfortable doing this directly, then get someone to help you such as a friend or someone in authority.
  • An active bystander is someone who interrupts a potentially harmful situation, especially when it comes to bullying and harassment. They may not be directly involved but they do have the choice and opportunity to speak up and intervene.
  • A bystander that takes a positive action such as supporting the victim or asking adults or peers to help, or even just walking away, can shift the attention and power away from the bully and help put an end to the behaviour.
