The Oasis Project

The Oasis Project is about enhancing wellbeing by developing connections and social interactions and embracing activities such as being in nature and giving back to your local community through volunteering.

One part of the Project is the Oasis Community Garden however many other exciting opportunities will become available over the next few months – watch this space!

Oasis Community Garden

The Oasis Community Garden is a beautiful space within the village of Cherry Willingham, 10 minutes outside of Lincoln. The space is currently run by the YMCA who have offered an exclusive and exciting opportunity to collaborate in the space for the benefit of staff wellbeing across the Lincolnshire Integrated Care System.

There is extensive research into the benefits of spending time in nature, the act of simply contemplating nature helps to rest and recharge our brains and has positive benefits on our physical, mental and social wellbeing.

You don’t need to have ‘green fingers’ as a member of the team will be available to support and guide you. If gardening isn’t your thing then don’t worry as there will be a variety of other activities to support the project. This may include woodwork or crafting as we also have some indoor spaces available to transform for activities in the future.

The Oasis project will provide an opportunity for you to learn new skills, make new friends, improve mental and physical health and wellbeing and improve your confidence.

Further activities will also be available to support your wellbeing such as social activities, walking groups and mindfulness.

Would you like to be involved in this exciting project to transform this space whilst also enhancing your own wellbeing?

Please email lpft.staffwell-being@nhs.net for further information.

If you are unable to attend any of the planned sessions for the Oasis Project you can still access this beautiful space and enhance your wellbeing by volunteering for the YMCA. Please contact volunteer@lincsymca.co.uk to register your interest.

In addition to the Oasis Garden the YMCA also have other volunteering opportunities that are open to all.

  • Two wonderful shops, one on Burton Road and one on Moorland Avenue, that are in need of volunteers to support them. Its a great way to meet customers and the community. We have some fantastic donations but we are always in need of more, so if you don't fancy working in the shop, please ask your friends, family and colleagues for items we can use.  We always need clothing (especially men's), shoes, bags, household items, ornaments, books and DVD's.
  • We have our Nomad centre in need of mealtime support at weekends, to help serve out the meals to residents. It makes a big difference to our residents to have a friendly face and a chat over a meal. Food is such an important part of coming together and also feeling safe.
  • We have our wonderful Youth teams (including Airplay groups), who provide fantastic opportunities for young people to access equipment, arts and crafts or youth groups. It can be loud ! but such good fun. These run mostly after schools in the week, but we will be expanding this as we develop our St Giles project as well.
